Something to celebrate? Whether it’s a big birthday, a family milestone or just the very great pleasure of France with friends, this magnificent mas located between Gordes and Roussillon is an impressive and unique base to create some truly magical holiday memories that will linger well beyond your week or two in the glorious Provençal sunshine.
The house is vast, built in a u-shape around a central courtyard graced by a 100-year-old plane tree. The building itself is older still, dating back to the 18th century, when size really was everything and the 750m2 footprint would leave no one in any doubt as to the status of the fortunate owner. Yet despite the proportions, there’s nothing overly ostentatious about Le Mas du Luberon (well, if you discount the helipad perhaps!) and what awaits you here is an elegantly informal mix of local antiques and contemporary artworks set against a generous sprinkling of original features. It’s a place to spread out and feel at home; with eight en-suite bedrooms extending over two separate wings and a guest annexe, there’s room for all of you to carve out your personal time and space as needed. And whatever your holiday pleasure, this house has it covered, with a library, separate children's lounge, a piano and a games room.
Outside, the scale continues to impress, with 5000m2 of landscaped grounds, a heated swimming pool and private tennis court. Summer living could not be easier, with a large pool house, boules court and plenty of shaded seating areas for a family meal or a bottle or two of the many excellent Luberon wines. The mas and grounds are immaculate thanks to the local caretakers who live discreetly in their own house on the estate, leaving you free to live like the gentry who would once have called this gracious place home. And if the grandeur of your surroundings makes you feel like a little extra pampering, you can pre-book a range of indulgent extras, from daily bread delivery to a private chef, personal trainer or bespoke wine tour around the glorious Luberon valley.
Local area
The Luberon is full of gorgeous hilltop towns and villages, and two of the most famous – Roussillon and Gordes – are within a 10 to 15-minute drive. The red hues that give Roussillon its name are due to the ochre deposits on which it sits in the foothills of the Vaucluse mountains, making for an incredibly picturesque little spot. You won’t have to drive far to find stunningly photogenic lavender fields either, especially if you’re here between June and August when the flowers are at their height, and the quaint lavender museum at Coustellet (20mins) is well worth a visit. Gordes is a delightful must-see, albeit a busy one in the main season, when you might decide to stop on the way at nearby Joucas, where the honey-gold houses and vineyard views are just as pretty as its celebrity neighbour down the road. You’ll find a market within half an hour or less on every day of the week, the perfect spot to stock up on French goodies to enjoy in the majestic privacy of Le Mas du Luberon.

We were 3 generations of family (it was nearly 4 but mother-in-law had a hip replacement just before the holiday and so was unable to join us!). We had the most amazing time. The children loved the pool and all took part in all the many facilities that the house has to offer, including billiards, table football, boules, tennis, swimming competitions, table tennis and even a game of cricket. The house is massive and there was plenty of room for everyone. The staff, Amina and Fatima looked after us very well and made our time at the house very comfortable. The Simpson Concierge, Sarah was great and booked all our restaurants etc and stayed in touch to make sure all our needs were met. It was a super holiday.
A unique property. Exceptionally peaceful location and a luxurious, beautiful house. We loved it!
Our choice of French properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.
To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

There's no better way to while away leisurely holiday hours than by visiting the many Provençal villages with their cobbled streets and cafes. Hilltop towns glow in pale golden stone, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and fields of fragrant purple lavender. From celebrated Gordes to charming Eygalières, each town has a market to help you discover local produce, or treat yourself to a long lazy lunch; from pavement cafes to Michelin stars, the midday meal in France is nothing short of an art form.
The cities of Avignon, Orange, Nîmes and Arles offer an architecturally rich and cultural day out but try to make time for lesser-known gems like Vaison la Romaine, Uzès and Ile sur la Sorgue for a less crowded but equally impressive picture of the history of the region.
A day at the beach is always an option but you can find other open water options closer to home, from child-friendly paddling in the River Gardon below le Pont du Gard, to kayaking down La Sorgue as it winds its way through the Luberon. Close to Avignon, Lac de Monteux has a lifeguarded beach and various water activities for all ages.
This is a destination to rival any other. Complemented by our selection of handpicked villas we can help you make the most of your luxury holiday in Provence.
